New MPCNC for 2020! - Primo -

I think I’ll jump on the Primo bandwagon… is this what ya’ll are referring to as DOM?

Yes it is that looks a little pricey though

Yep, rural king has it a touch cheaper, but they have it! It might be worth the extra couple bucks. I just give it a light coat of paste wax.

I’ll start printing the core as soon as the 25 mm version is available.

Cheers,
U.

Just ordered at Metal Supermarkets in Plano
22.5" x3
28.5" x3
16" x3
was about $58 after tax.
That was for “HTR/1120” which is 1" OD and 0.120 wall.
I’ll trim off the gantry rails myself and chop up one of the 16" pieces for legs.

RTFM of the drivers. You have to adjust the coil current. Steppers get hottest when they are standing motionless.

Wait a minute, the calculator is showing rail lengths less than table size (outside of feet), but I think rails need to be larger than table! Is the offset being applied the wrong way?

The archim is set by software, and the current was chosen by Ryan. If you go by the stepper manual current, you will melt stuff for sure. Those maximums are way too high.

Darn. That looks wrong to me… @barry99705? Did you check the calculator?

Nope, let me take a look at it.

With
778 mm X axis rail
776 mm Y axis rail

foot are at 774-745 mm
And total footprint at 853 … as best I could measure

That HD link has a relevant review!

This was bought for the frame of a Mostly printed cnc (mpcnc) router. Works great

Back about a year ago or so I bought all the DOM I needed for less than $50 at a local metal supplier. Gun blued it and coated it with automotive ceramic coating I had leftover. Holding up fine, though I’m in AZ.

Ordered the Primo upgrade. Was going to add in a pack of zip ties to the order to confuse @vicious1

Yea, calculator is off. When I get the X outer rails to 30.5in I get an X foot print of 32in. My feet are 29.25" apart. That’s with the clamping slot pointing to the center of the machine. Not sure if the feet are square or not.

I have corner bottom printed and center of leg to outside is 42mm both ways so I would expect rails to be larger by 84mm minus the diameter of the foot. I’m measuring (off the STL) the foot to be square and about 53mm, so the rail should be 31 mm larger than the outside of the feet. This is pretty close to GP’s results. I’ll assume ‘774-745’ was intended to be ‘744-745’

I know Ryan has approximate total print time and filament posted in the instructions but just to give everyone an idea of what mine looks like on a Prusa MK2S.
PETG .4mm nozzle, .3mm layer height, 3 perimeters with a 45% infill (3D gyroid) except the core which is at 75% infill. I grouped things together that would fit on the bed at 1 time, so your mileage may vary.

Corner Top x4 14h 13m 247g
Corner Bottom x4 17h 6m 294g
Upper/Lower Belts 3h 30m 60g
Leg Locks x4 6h 21m 110g
Feet x4 10h 53m 188g
Stop Blocks and Wire Darryls 1h 50m 27g
Truck x2 15h 46m 270g
Truck Mirrored x2 15h 46m 270g
Truck Clamps x4 1h 39m 27g
Z assembly pieces (all) 7h 46m 134g
Core Clamps (all) 6h 52m 109g
Core (the beast) 32h 11m 469g
Total 133h 53m 2,205g

Sorry mail just picked up.

I swear we all checked that calc several times…Let me have a look, it has to be a misplaced negative.
