Hey MTCL. Build is complete. Life has kind of gotten in the way these last few months. The build is done but I haven’t had much time to putz with it. Plus I am struggling finding a cam software that I am able to operate and actually get it to work. I am beginning to get some traction with V-Carve Pro’s Trial Version. Don’t have the money to buy the real thing yet but will. Keep me posted on how your build goes!!! That Primo does look like a nice machine. Kevin
That’s awesome! A successful build close by that gives me high hopes!
If it’s possible would you please take a picture of the electronics? How everything is wired ?
I’ll keep you posted for sure
There should be detailed pictures in the docs. What has you worried with the wiring?
@jeffeb3 nice to see you here in this thread again
My worry is that i do not know what all electronics to buy? I don’t see a list of everything just like there is a clear and concise list of 3d print parts. I understand that there are many choices in terms of electronics but I haven’t seen a sample list of parts to buy with a controller.
For example if i want to go with skr pro 1.2, what all do I need to buy?
- Skr pro 1.2 microcontroller
- 5 count of stepper motor (nema 17s)
- Power supply
Is that it? Or do i also need to buy motor drivers like this?
When I see youtube tutorials, they always use these green kind of Drivers while using with arduino. Does microcontroller does the job of these as well?
Hi @mtcl and @MakerX68. Add me to the list of MN folks!
I just added a Primo build, but I didn’t have a ton of info/pics on the electronics - mainly because it needs some cable management still.
Tom
We still want to see it in all it’s messy glory like before and after
I’d love to see it messy as well!
I’m a MN guy at heart, grew up in White Bear Lake, lived in Minneapolis, and my grandparents had a place on Mille Lacs right near Hunter’s Point where’s yours? We’ve landed in ND for the past 6 years, I can honestly say that I was glad to be here this summer though… Our house in Minneapolis was about 4 blocks south and 4 blocks west of where George died…
Anyway, I’ve been putzing with my MPCNC build for around 3 years now. Finally was cutting my spoil board and found tramming issues… I did make some pretty cool plotter art with it though!
I updated my build post with pics of the electronics.

Very nice love the details
I never leave. If I don’t respond, it’s usually because someone else has said something and I agree with it. I try to like those posts, but I don’t get to them all.
The skr pro bundle from Ryan comes with the pro board, 5 or 6 TMC2209s (you want 5) and a tft35 acreen. You also need a power supply 5 motors, 4 endstops (optional), Z touch plate (optional). A raspberry pi, power supply and a usb cable are needed for the v1pi image. I think the parts list in the docs actually has most of that stuff.
Thanks, i ordered tmc2208 instead of 09s, is that a big deal? My nema 17 is 84 oz.in.
Kind of. The 2209 can handle a bit more current. I’m not sure if that will matter. But the bugger issue is the firmware needs ro change a few lines from 2209 to 2208.
Did you still end up going with your RotoZip? I have one and if it works decently enough I would like to try it out before ultimately deciding on which way to go (spindle/DeWalt/Makita…). Typical over-thinking, over-researching, procrastination…whatever you want to call it.
Rotozips have quit a bit of runout.
what’s runout?
The amount the bit moves laterally, as it spins.
Thanks Barry and Jeff for the runout info. The stuff I’ve cut so far looks good but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Does the Dewalt have any runout? What about the other spindle Ryan recommends how does it measure up?
They’ll have less runout since they’re routers, but they’ll have some.
