Jealous, I have no way to get mine in the house. I want to be cutting vinyl stickers! it is warming up today, maybe I can finally!
Yesterday’s project was a mount for my old Dremel. I couldn’t find an one on Thingiverse to work with the Makita mount. Designed in Rhino 3d, sliced in Cura and printed on an Ender 3. I put the lug for a M4 screw on the bottom but it’s not necessary. The Makita mount clamps it securely. I’m ready for some foam milling.
Man, you are doing some top notch stuff. Did you design the tape measure holders yourself? I like the way you did them! That dremel carrier is cool too. But I bought the 660 in the beginning, so I will just use the mount that is on thingiverse.
Thanks. I left the conduit about 2 inches long on the ends that hold the wiring. I made some PLA fittings for each end of the tape measure. The ones on the trucks are fixed and the ones at the other end rotate around the conduit as necessary. If I would have known how big the loop in the tape and wiring was going to be I might have mounted them on the bottom side. They’re not hurting anything above but look a little weird.
I hope you don t mind. I am going to try and copy it. I want to be able to slide my material under the conduit as I made my mpcnc smaller than I wanted to. so at times I may cut larger material in multiple sections. Above will work well.
Riley,
No I don’t mind. The tape measure idea isn’t mine and this is all about sharing anyway.
I bought some foam yesterday. Inflation, it’s $6 now, not $5. I ran my first few 3d parts. A couple line drawings using engrave and the one below 3d. I was happy with the outcome considering it was a 1/8 ball mill in foam on such a small detailed part.
For my portable build I found it necessary to mount the electronics close to the work area. I decided to include a fan, not for cooling, but to put positive pressure in the enclosure to reduce dust buildup. I bought a 60mm fan and used a HEPA filter that we have for our Kenmore/Panasonic vacuum cleaner. We’ll see if it helps
Neat! How well does that fan pull through the filter?
A BIC lighter flickers pretty good when held in front of the outlet grille. That’s the most technical equipment I have to test with. I feel a little breeze with my hand in front. Can’t hurt, might help.
Jealous I went out today but my garage was just too cold. I will be insulating and drywalling this summer! Tired of the cold. Getting too old I guess.
First successful wood project. It was the 4th try due to bad operator tool inputs in Estlcam. I’m learning. It was cut with a Dremel so the noise level was acceptable in the house. Tree is about 180mm high. It will go on my address sign, palm trees in the snow are a local joke.
That looks great!
What tool did you use? Ball nose?
Thanks Ryan. It was rewarding because I did the 3d model based on a 2d cartoon in Rhino. I know Dremel’s aren’t popular due to power and runout but for my purposes they work ok and are usable in the house. I bought a Dremel 4300 yesterday and designed mounts today, they’re on the printer. Hard to get good information but it appears the 4300 might have speed control something like the Makita 0701 and may be less noisy than my old 395. It’s about twice the power as the 395. We’ll see how it works. The only thing I would need the Makita for is if I wanted to use a larger V engrave bit. Probably limited to a 1/4" with the Dremel. Thanks, you’ve given me a great way to pass time this winter.
Riley,
I used a rough and finish program in Estlcam. 1/8" single flute upcut endmill for rough and 2mm 2 flute ball mill for finish. 45% stepover rough and 10% finish. It’s not perfect but I’m learning and having fun
Hey looks awesome!
I built a new power outlet box. The last one had one outlet with a 3 way splitter plugged in. The outlet was on the back and unplugging the router was just enough of a pain that I might not do it. New one has a switched outlet on the front for the router and always on outlets on back for lights, laptop or whatever. Power supply for board is hardwired to emergency switch. Unplugging the router is now easy enough that I’ll be sure to do it when changing bits. V1 sticker peeled nicely to move to new home
So I have a pc power supply I am using with a Light Switch, i can flip the light switch and shut everything down immediately. (Except Router! )
That is very, very nice!
