LR4 - Turned out I was able to build it... so anyone truly can do the same LOL

I’m traveling… but as Phillipp said, my machine has only the one X limit switch which makes contact with the ZY plate on the minimum side (left). you might be referring to the two limit switches on the Y rails maybe?

sorry guys ive been talking about the wrong axis :see_no_evil_monkey: its the Y axis, these are the limit switches i have fitted as per the video, if you look they are activated from the same direction the front, there is a slot in the rear of the side that runs on the rail for a limit switch, but the video didn’t fit anything in there. sorry to be a pain

Those are correct. The ones in the back are just used if you want to home to the back, but normally homing is to the front and to the left.

I agree that it could be inaccurate depending on material height unless you can get the laser perfectly square to the Z axis. As an exaggeration, imagine the laser titled at 45 degrees and then think of different thickness boards being placed under it. The distance from the bit center would change drastically as the material thickness changes.

So depending on how square you can get the laser to the Z axis and how critical it is for perfect accuracy, it could be a good guide. Performing a test with 2 very different material thicknesses should tell you how close it is to square.

setting my z to home I dialed in the laser to the sharpest focus for the spoil board. I then put a 1/2” mdf piece on the spot set to 0,0 and made sure it was square with the my spoil board table top. ran a simple square using a 30 degree v-bit. the results were near perfect. that sharp tool cut along the sharp edge of the material and when measured diagonally with the calipers, it was square. I will be using this to locate the 0,0 spot on the table to place my material. don’t see how the thickness would enter into it based on my use. if I were positioning off the material, then yes, that would make sense.

Cranked this out as a donation for fundraiser for fallen deputy family.

Stars deep carve with 1/2” v bit… same with name. Pocket for separate badge done in alder. They raised several hundreds for this, was purchased live auction then donated back to family. So happy to be able to help… thanks goes to Ryan for making this possible.
