LR4 table questions

I have some questions about the style of LR4 table depicted here: https://docs.v1e.com/img/lr4/widelr4.jpg

  • What is the minimum width of the wood “rails” to each side of the cutting area, that the machine rides on?
  • What is a good material for those rails? I’m guessing flatness is key.
  • When the docs say that “A standard build would give you 50mm of Z cutting depth”, is that 50mm on top of a spoilboard which is flush with the rails?

Doug joseph has a unistrut version. That is about 1.5in wide. I don’t think it helps to conpletely minimize it. You want a little extra width so you can have a straight line without running over the edge. At that point. What is the difference in cost between 1.5" and 2"?

I would use an engineered wood. Flatness matters. But so does stability. I like plywood for that kind of thing. But MDF is a solid choice.

I’m not sure about the 50mm. I think the bottom of the router can lift 100mm over the surface the wheels ride on.
