Could finally be the time for an aluminium strut plate!
I may attempt that, it’s on the bucket list ![]()
I went ahead and ordered the “paddle clip” inserts shown above and will see what I can do with them.
I will use these in legs for the portable case and have a couple other things I could use them for.
Does anyone know any EMT or similar galvanized tubing that nests better in/over 1/2”, 3/4”, or 1” EMT?
Meanwhile, after endless rumination I think I’m going to buy a set of these to use as the enclosure.
I’ve gone back and forth several times. I’ve debated laser cutting 3mm baltic burch and gluing up a fancy leightweighted/reinforced structure, OSB (which I would absolutely do if I could find it in 1/4”), and even some milled/printed stuff. I finally decided to just use the phenolic stuff.
Now I need to finish deciding on road case hardware.
I also debated this one. Part of me really wants to put simple cheap aluminum angle all around it, the kind of stuff you can find at hardware stores and home improvement stores world wide.
I may still do that, but I think I’m going to use some purpose made road case aluminum side extrusions and also aluminum tounge-and-groove for the center section of the “luggage” where it splits in half while deploying into a benchtop.
I’m still playing around trying to learn FreeCAD, I’m eventually going to get the hang of it and maybe even figure out parametric / spreadsheet design workflow.
I’m super interested in the same for a greenhouse-like structure project.
If you’re just looking for sockets for legs, 3D printed bushing/reducer inserts to go inside the larger tubing would probably work well.
It was a while ago, maybe 2016 or thereabouts, someone I worked made his own flight cases for his church AV system.
I don’t know what site he used but I do know you can buy all the bits and assemble yourself. I don’t know how the economics work out. Here’s an example - not suggesting this site, just for illlustration:
They have the fancy phenolic as a laminate but might be a faff.
LOL, had to look that one up.
