Lego cabinet

picked up a job about 7 months ago , design and build a floor to ceiling cabinet for Lego, to fit in an odd shaped corner , customer told me after I had installed it that he had 5 other companies come look at job and they all walked away said cant be done, then along comes crazy me ,and says yeah sure it can be done , what was i thinking  :man_shrugging: there were some new words invented during the build

I used the woodwork and parts workbench in freecad to design the cabinet

this is the top view

6 different angles and no 2 were the same, and murphy’s law , even after caculating all the angles for cuts in freecad, doesn’t always work in practice

the draw pieces are missing from the exploded view ,

10 x 2400mm x 1200mm sheets of material went into the build , even i triple checked as seemed way to much

aluminium frame doors 1700mm h x 600w, custom shaped 5mm toughen glass shelves

20 mm crystal clear acrylic in centre to hold up shelves,

recessed led chasing COB lights

one of the what should of been an easy part caused the most grief, the open piece on right for glass panel , while cnc out inner pocket for glass recess,1st pass sweet 2nd pass , it just decided it wanted to go off on its own path , 1 full sheet in bin , 2nd attempt cut out sweet , but while hand drilling holes for hidden furniture connectors, the depth gauge decided on the last hole let go , and drill straight through and into hand , another full sheet in bin  :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: , things got thrown

3rd attempt got it

than the supplier of door frames didn’t send all connectors, 2nd delivery they than sent out 4 lefts, not 2 l and 2r 3rd delivery they got it right, so that was a month of waiting

oh there were some testing moments , but to see the finished product installed was worth it

above photo, panel on top recess for doors as they are deeper than draw fronts

angle front panel had to sit on outside edge and float above base door ,rest of panels sat on carcass to line up with everything else

led channels are at front beside doors, the light strip you see on back wall is the reflection the white panels are high gloss acrylic veneer

all the videos of chasing lights are to big to zip, link to post on my page with them running it u want see them

This is incredible, how did you make the angled cuts? Also with the CNC?

which bit did you use to cut the mdf ? downcut ?

Thank you very much

angled cuts were done on a table saw,

ive got a headache just thinking about where to even start and do those angles with a cnc, it is on my list of things to trial is standard mitre cuts, with a cnc

even cutting them on a table saw was challenging 0.5deg out was like the grand canyon

if it was a standard material that would be fine but the high gloss white magnifies every line

eg the gap on each side of draws and in middle of draws 1s 1mm the top plinth above end glass panel is butt jointed

yip single flute down cut,

I buy my tools from https://carbidetools.nz/ they are awesome to deal with, tools can be reground

That thing is incredible… FreeCAD is just sooo good with the community. I now have Gear, Gridfinity, Guitar and Woodworking and they are all brilliant.

agreed , i haven’t dug in to its full potential

the guy that created woodworking is great to deal with, when i originally started using it you couldn’t customize off sets for doors/draw fronts to match they way be do cabinetry

a few emails went back and forth explaining how our standard cabinets look etc, he made a few changes in the settings, tabs so now you can customize to your own standard

is it this one ? GitHub - dprojects/Woodworking: my environment for woodworking · GitHub
how do you get the DXF out for the cnc from it ? I’ve looked at it and it only creates those tables with cut sheets

yip thats the one

im not sure if you can do it from inside woodwork , i couldnt figure it out either , i transfer it to tech draw work bench

hopefully you can open the video’ of how i do it
