Hey all, is there a way to drive closed loop steppers with the jackpot2 board? I’m guessing no since the output is just voltages, but I’m a dummy and may not understand completely how this all works.
Thank you in advance!
Closed loop steppers need external drivers which the Jackpot is not capable of. So no, you can’t run closed loop steppers.
Ok so I can’t use them. Right on, I’ll return them and just use nema 23 dumb steppers
If you are building an V1 machine, you also can’t use Nema 23. ![]()
Ball screws everywhere, linear bearing blocks, built for the hyuangsang 2.2kw er20 spindle. Using the jackpot2 currently but will switch to jackpot 1 for the enable, step and dir outputs from the board for external drivers and closed loop stepper
None of the jackpot family are well suited for external driver use. You may want to consider one of Bart Dring’s FluidNC boards that are purpose built to run external stepper drivers.
But I want to support v1e!!
Understood, but each board has its strengths and weaknesses.
For external steppers you’re really better off with one of Bart’s purpose designed boards.
You can always buy something small that you’d use from Ryan’s shop and make a donation if you want to support him. (I do that!)
Copy that. I just bought a 6x cnc, since I’ll need the onboard spindle vfd stuff anyway. In other news I have a jackpot2 I don’t need, anyone way to buy it or just pay shipping and I’ll send it?
Interesting. Definitely needs some side plates or it is going to be really flimsy with just the aluminium profiles joined with the 3D printed bracket. Keep us in the loop, you can surely get some great input here. ![]()
I’m going to use it to make aluminum brackets and replace all the 3d printed stuff.
