I’m facing a problem that I believe it’s due to drivers overheating usually one of the motors will stop working and if I reset and continue everything stops while the the board still powered on, alot of time I loose wifi connection after running for a while, any solution please or should I switch back to Marlin.
Are you using the V1 engineering steppers or your own?
Have you made any changes to the configuration file?
I’ve never heard of anybody overheating with the standard config
You haven’t really provided any details to help us help you. Here’s some things you can provide:
- What kind of machine do you have?
- Can you post pictures of your machine, and in particular the as-wired/as-installed jackpot?
- Do you have dust collection on your machine? If so, is it grounded, and if it is grounded, how?
- Is your board configured in AP mode or STA mode?
- What version of FluidNC and WebUI are you running?
What marlin controller did you have previously? When and why did you switch?
What kind of machine do you have? Lr4
Can you post pictures of your machine, and in particular the as-wired/as-installed jackpot?
Do you have dust collection on your machine? If so, is it grounded, and if it is grounded, how? I can admit my ground is not the best I’m wrapping naked wire around the hose connected to ground point
Is your board configured in AP mode or STA mode? AP
What version of FluidNC and WebUI are you RUNNING? original one that cam with the controller I believe it’s the previous version did not get a chance to update to latest one but confused about the sw page
The issue is happening when cutting straight lines and did not occur when I cut random shapes so I believe it’s overheating due to lock current
Are you using the V1 engineering steppers or your own? V1 engineering motor that was supplied with6lr and I have one got it with LR4 on xaixs showed same problem
Have you made any changes to the configuration file?no just limit switches offcet
I’ve never heard of anybody overheating with the standard config
Usually, or always? Is it always the same motor(s) that stops working?
I had it happening on x axis and now it’s one of the motors on y axis
Ymin side motor, on the end of an extension cable?
Sorry don’t recall which one is ymin ymax but it’s the one connected directly no extention cable
Blow the dust off your board.
Is your fan pulling air through the case or pushing it into it? It should be pulling, that should reduce dust build up.
This is the easiest way to answer questions to keep things easy to read. Quote the question then answer below it.
Like this. Hope that helps.
I regularly do clean the board and the fan is pulling the air
Best not to use a vacuum for that. The static electricity buildup can be brutal.
A soft brush, anti-static vacuum or canned “dust-off” are better choices.
I am back to some sort of bad connection then.
Do the steppers get warm, or hot? To be honest, we do not work the drivers or the steppers very hard. I didn’t use a fan on the drivers for most of my jackpot1’s life and I turned up the drivers for speed tests.
I am really not sure how to diagnose this.
There’s still the usuals:
- connect FluidTerm and run the job, show the output from the job.
- Explore how the job is being run. From sender, from starting a job from WebUI?
- Pull the dust collection hoses and grounds, chase the router with a blower to remove chips while troubleshooting. Does it still stall?
- (For the AP)- what kind of client computer, what signal strengths being reported? What channels are in use? Do you have access to a WiFi signal strength app on a device [phone or tablet]?
- To rule in/out overheating, use an IR pyrometer or IR camera to show temps. IR pyrometers are like $25 at the import tool companies and very much worht having in the tool box. Temps we care about are the temps on the heat sinks, and the temp of the ESP-32 processor.
Yes they are warm when i touch them i’m cutting 12plywood in 6 passess, 1 hour job in the issue happened after when i do job after another lets say, tried the same code next day as firist job and it woked fine.
There is no issue with the code as it’s runing fine next day or after leaving the maching off for a while,
I belive i tyied cutting before without vacum hose as i just don’t remaber the results i got but i can try again.
laptop and signal are good as im close to the maching the issue i loose connection compltly after a while of runing for some instance the machine cotinue runing with no issues just no wifi connection and somtimes i loose both the wifi and the movment.
I will try to capture with iR pyrometer
On some firmware if you try to move way beyond the limits it has random issues. Best not to discount anything.
Run the crown Gcode many times and see if you have an issue or let us see your gcode to verify the speeds you are trying to move.
