How to baby step Z during a cut

Hey folks! My touch plate fell into my router and vanished into the ether during a cut. For the mean time I’m using a washer as a replacement until my new one comes in.

I tried to adjust my z during a cut because the washer is thicker than the touch plate and noticed nothing happened. I understand I can change my gcode to compensate for my touch plate size, but I’d like to understand how to adjust my Z while it’s doing a cut. I can see the command enter the console but nothing happens. Same if I pause the cut and try. This is something I did frequently on my SKR and comes in handy often. Is this by design or am I missing something?

Marlin being a 3d printer firmware has this function built in. I am not sure that FluidNC has that. I can honestly say I have never tried it. I do believe that the console is “ignored” while running a job, even when paused. I think you will have to adjust your gcode for the thicker washer.
