Hardboard, acrylic or mdf?

So before I go and buy I wanted to ask and see what everyone thinks.
I have alot of 3/16 acrylic at home I was wondering if it would be good to double up and use as my yz plates and xz plates.

I can get a sheet of hardboard for 40.00
Could I use that as all my flat parts ?
Like double up the yz and xz plates then use it for the strut.

A sheet of 1/2” mdf is 80.00
I was going to buy the hardboard anyways.
Thanks in advance

I used plywood. If you want another option.

Doubling material would never sit right with me, even if it might work (I have go absolutely no idea if it does or doesn’t), I’d always have the feeling that it could split apart or sth like this. Plus: How are you gluing acrylic without seeing those stupid gluemarks in between? :stuck_out_tongue:

Nah - it’s being held by the bolts in any case. Glued acrylic kind of fuses together (unless you don’t use the right glue, in which case it doesn’t.

I’m curious now - I’d like to have a play with using a thin smear of coloured silicone between the parts and clamp the life out of them to get it a consistent thin-ness. Might end up looking very cool! Or it might be a disaster…

Very good points
I do have some plywood I could use
Thanks for the ideas and also the bonding issue

I ended up using some 1/2” plywood.
I can’t believe how accurate the mpcnc is.
It’s like mesmerizing watching it too.
I have some plate I might try this Troichoidal method, I read up on it last night and set it up in estle cam.

I also made a mistake
I accidentally added two paths to some cuts and got rid of my hold downs.
