FluidTouch - Wireless FluidNC Pendant

Hi Jason,

Love the concept of this pendant but still having some issues seeing and running cut files on the Jackpot SD card. I have tried the following which may be useful feedback:

  1. Reloaded the pendant with the latest FluidTouch firmware. After doing this the pendant connects to the Jackpot and behaves as before. Unfortunately I still can’t see files on the Jackpot SD card.
  2. I tied moving the pendant right next to the Jackpot in case the signal was weak. This seemed to make no difference.
  3. As you can see in the photo I noticed this error:3 message in the Terminal tab. Perhaps a clue?
  4. Checked the Jackpot SD is working ok by using my laptop to connect to FluidNC. Using this method the files on the SD card are easily visible and operatational.
  5. My final thought (perhaps a silly one?) is my wifi modem shares the same IP address 192.168.0.1 as FluidNC. Could this cause problems?

Sorry to be a pain in the arse!

I was waiting to see your response to this as well. This would have shown exactly what is happening when it tries to load the files.

Error 3 is ā€œInvalid $ statementā€. What version of FluidNC do you have? It is using the $Files/ListGcode command to get the file list. I think you might need at least v3.9.1. It’s not clear to me when that command was added but changes were made during v3.8 (which was not stable for other reasons).

What happens if you run this in the terminal in the WebUI?
$Files/ListGcode=/sd/

I have FluidNC version 3.7.8 so this could be the problem.

After typing $Files/ListGcode=/sd/ in the WebUI terminal I got:

ERROR:3

Grbl ā€˜$’ system command not recognised

Seems I should update my FluidNC to the latest v3.9? If so is there a suggested version that is considered the most stable? At one stage it was suggested here that v3.7.8 was the most stable and recommended version.

Cheers

3.9.9 is the latest suggested version

Hi

How is UART connectivity development doing? I have asked my friend to make it work and it seems that he managed to do it, but I haven’t tested it in real world yet and I was curious about original developers progress on this part.

I abandoned plans to do that since I don’t have an easy way of getting power to it from my Jackpot controller.

My experience with electronics is limited so while I can handle the software side, I’m not sure how to wire that safely. I will err on the side of caution when there is a risk to damaging the controller.

Plus wireless is working great. I personally would not use it wired even if I did add support.

Right now there seems to be inconsistency in the displays so even the same versions are behaving differently. Touch isn’t working on some standard displays. Some advance displays are experiencing excessive flickering unless the brightness is reduced. Until that gets resolved, I’m not introducing any hardware based features.

Same. It works great wirelessly.

I like wire wireless is my criptonite. Any time I try to cnc with wifi I have interference issues or timeouts. A good USB cable and i golden sorry. What does work Good on wifi is my streaming TV maybe the TV is the problem  if so all the more reason to use wire I never know when the TV will be in use. I think my golden retriever has a crush on Teddie

On the specific use case the wireless isn’t suitable, it needs to be hardwired. We used logic level shifter for communication on UART0 and Power needs to be 5V for display and 24V for FluidNC board. Hopefully I can test it soon.

I mean I have a vision for what the software side looks like. I planned some things with such support in mind. But I can’t support the hardware side of it and would need someone to send that to me to implement as I intended.

Jason great job.

I have 3y old Kumana 5inch display that I was attaching to raspberry usually.

Is the escrow 7inch display includes the board already where everything runs?

Otherwise I would give a try to make my 5inch display+raspberry working… but probably not worth the effort if that 7inch including acrilyc cover is solving that all for 40 usd

I recieved my Elecrow 7ā€ Advance panel with acrylic case a couple of weeks ago. It was as simple as loading the Fluid Touch software and adding my machine, just follow the instructions in the Fluid Touch thread. Keep in mind that the panel doesn’t come with a battery, so you have to keep it plugged in to usb-c while using it unless you add one.

Fluid Touch is still in development, and has some minor issues, but is still very much usable. The screen flickers randomly on mine, but I believe Jason has been working on soloutions.

Also, with the acrylic case from Elecrow the buttons on the back are easy to accidentally press, you can fix this by adding bolts in the threaded holes in the back to act as standoffs.

I want to try to design a 3D printed back case that will also act as a stand when I have time.

Yes, the controller board and display are integrated and you can get it with an acrylic case that allows for a small battery.

There are some flickering issues that are happening with some displays. It seems they may have changed something resulting in significant flickering on some. There is a workaround to reduce the brightness.

I’m working on a 3D printed case that supports larger batteries and has a power toggle switch. I was thinking about putting some kind of popout leg so it could stand like my cell phone case has.

Currently, I just sit it in the acrylic case in this stand:

Hi Jason

Today I built up the courage to upgrade my FluidNC software from v3.7.8 to the recommended 3.9.9.

This solved my files access problem completely. 100% satisfied with the FluidTouch now.

Cheers Andrew
