FluidNC acting weird

I’ll give V3 a try but I am having other issues. I ran a 2D cut yesterday that used 3 different gcode files. Ran fine with just one problem…after one code file ended I had to shut down the Jackpot and reload before I ran the next file.

I need two of the cut I made yesterday but trying to run it today seems impossible. It is stopping in the middle of the cut…three times so far…and when I stop and reload Fluid NC I get the error message that it is showing the startup log from the previous panic. If I try to restart the file is says that Garbl “$” command cannot be used unless Grbl is IDLE.

I’m unsure what I need to do next. Do I have a bad or wrong config.yaml file?

Bad gcode is possible (how was it made?), and how exactly are you connecting to the board?

I use Carveco Maker. The gcode worked just fine yesterday. I’m using the AP mode with the computer and controller sitting next to each other. I have no issues with finding the website and connecting to the FluidNC.

Make sure you are using a GRBL post processor, I have never had any experience with that software so maybe there is funky code.

I have been using this software for a year with no issues. The gcode file I ran with no problems on Thursday is the same file that keeps on stopping in the middle today. I changed nothing between yesterday and today. The only common issue on both days was the need to shutdown and reload FluidNC before I ran another file. The item I am making uses 5 gcode files.

The most recent change was the upgrade to version 3.8.0 with new files.

I’m going to try and change from V2 to V3 files to see if that fixes some of the problems.

Good idea,

That is a weird one, 3.8.2 is another option. I didn’t really see much that I thought would make a difference but there was one probe fix or something that might be bigger than I thought?

Did’t change to V3 yet. I tried running it again but it stopped. What I found was that the computer was loosing the connection to FluidNC. When it stopped this time the screen showed it was trying to reconnect to the web. The screen for the original connection would not react to any commands. The new screen that was opened upon reconnect worked just fine. But it seems to time out also.

It seems the problem might be the computer? I’ve seen this happen before but never when running a file. The web connection seems to “time out”. I have another laptop I can try, same type, to see if it happens again.

You are wireless, if you hammer it with refreshes it can crash it. V3 prevents that.

Are you streaming the gcode over wifi, not coping the file the jackpot and running it locally?

I’m using a memory chip, not streaming it wirelessly.

I changed computers and ran the largest gcode file with no problem. I’ll try the rest of the files later. I did notice that the battery area of the original computer was extremely hot. I’m keeping an eye on the replacement to see if it gets hot too.

 till having problems. Three restarts while trying to cut a project. I”m going to move on to V3 and hope this is the answer. Although the original laptop battery was overheating, the new laptop isn’t and it is acting the in the same way! Could the ESP be overheating? I put a fan on it but never figured how to turn it on……

Have pictures of your fan setup? I bet we can help you get that running.

I’ll accept any help I can get!

Best I can do for a picture. Everything is fixed in place.

24 volt fan, red to Vmot, black to gpio 16, fan at top of picture.

You really want the fan on if the jackpot is on.

Using a MOSFET to switch the fan doesn’t buy you anything but inconvenience.

I put the fan in parallel with incoming VMOT power to the jackpot.
That way if the board is powered, the fan is running- regardless of whether the firmware is working or anyone’s sent any start up stuff to enable an output.

Ok! I’ll give it a try.

Ok…fan running….thanks Maker Jim!

Tried to run a file but it stopped after 2 minutes. The screen had the message that “Action needed for FluidNC….Select to open browser”. When I do that I get a message “MSG ERR: Showing startup from previous panic”.

Good wording…panic. Not sure where that came from but aptly stated!

Once I go to the new browser the program will respond again until the next repeat of the first message…in about 5 minutes. Each time it stops it will not restart until a new browser is loaded and then only at the beginning of the file, not from the last point where it stopped.

What I think I see happening is lost communication between the Jackpot board and my laptop. Distance is not the issue. They are sitting next to each other.

Suggestions?

FYI. Running version 3.8.0 with the V3 files.

One other comment. Reloading on the laptop is not enough to restart. I also have to shutdown and restart the jackpot board before it will respond.

The laptop and the board do not need to be connected at all. Once the file is started it needs no other inputs.

V3 will prevent you from connecting to much, like accidental refreshes. It will not cause a panic though.

Does this happen when you run the test crown file? Wondering if it is a Gcode thing.

Can you zip and attach your Gcode here please, I do not trust your CAM program and would like to see what commands are getting put in.
