Placed an order for the specialty and hardware parts last night. The final rail blocks are printing now.
Since I have a Primo, I plan to make the router and controller interchangeable. I’ve included DB25 connectors in my BOM, and I will box up the controller to be pluggable to whichever hardware is being used.
The Primo has 2 X motors, 2 Y motors and 1 Z motor.
The LR3 has 1 X motor, 2 Y motors and 2 Z motors.
If you are using series firmware, I suppose that you can still manage this, but you will not be able to use the dual endstops that both the Primo and LR3 have provisions for built-in. Both can be run without the endstops and the steps/mm are the same for X, Y and Z, so this isn’t a big deal. I very much like the autosquaring function for the LowRider, particularly for the Z axis though.
You don’t need a new controller, you can just refash your controller each time you need to change from LR to Primo and vice versa.
Just keeping a compiled firmware for each machine make the switch very easy.
Ports should be labelled twice depending if used for the primo or for the LR3
