I just really liked the picture of the mole, it’s from a children’s series pretty popular here in Germany (though it’s from Poland (?) originally).
In this episode he finds a beaten up toy car and brings it to a shop to be repaired. So actually not even my type of tinkering… But it’s cute, it is rememberable and can be used in all kinds of situations.
I could change to my company’s logo now, but that would feel wrong. 
Mine is pretty out of date. It’s me and my daughter on a hike in one of my favorite places (Whipps Ledges in Hinckley ohio) about 10 years ago. Most places I’ve updated it to something more recent…but I hadn’t been around here much and haven’t bothered to update it since so it’s a little window in time.

I bought a leather coachmans hat at the WV RenFair one year and was driving to work on St Patricks day. Took a selfie and started using it form my avatar.
I haven’t been at that technical college for more than a decade.
Before I deleted my Facebook account, my main picture was of my (then) 7-year old daughter on the teacup ride at Disney. She’s turning 21 in a week.

Anyone that can draw a portrait in AutoCAD has both incredible skill and also the patience of a saint.

Mine is a logo created for a set of dice masters I had made. Still working on getting the molds made… three years on.
It’s from one of my online handles: Madlemur, which itself grew out of an early collaboration around the CRPG Neverwinter Nights (the Bioware toolset game, not the MMO), and a failed attempt to find an appropriate approximation of a domain for Gaming Ape. Not sure why the suggestion algorithm came up with angry/mad, but I kind of see the ape→primate→lemur link…
It’s a nice, simple vector-ish image. For a while, I wanted to have a Phil Foglio style cartoon ringtail in a labcoat with wild eyes and smoking hair, but I can’t draw, and that would be, well, too much. I like what I have now.
Edit: Whups, take that back, this is a logo I cribbed from some public domain image… The logo I had created is tighter, and is just the head with the tail curled over it. But it’s based on this image.
Boring me, at first glance. But this is my bid for immortality. While all of you with funny handles and cute avatars fade away, the Internet will forever remember Steve M. Potter, who helpfully always used his actual photos for avatars, and “stevempotter” as his username for every single thing he did.
This also reflects my strong feelings that we ought to take responsibility for everything we post online, and be accountable. Anonymity has a very few important uses. Mostly, it allows people to be mean and to get away with bad things.
Also, I have an unfortunately common name, and strive to be the most important and searchable of the many Steve Potters out there. Using my middle initial helps. Google “Steve M. Potter” and let me know if my plan is working!
I can relate to that. I’m me, just being old me… sitting in my recliner in a drafty old farm house, all bundled up, in the middle of an East Texas winter cold spell.
In the large international Dallas-based electronics company I worked at, and retired from, there were at least four David Johnson’s… even another David K Johnson. I was one of the early Linux advocates/adopters, however, in the 1990-91 timeframe… and took on the “dkj4linux” screen name to differentiate myself. It “stuck”… and I continue to use it for virtually everything I do online.

Mine is my current shop dog or totum and love of my life. Currently Holly Holliday my current shop, lap companion. The name is from Unreal Tournament timon followed by jkl jackel team name. Played with and agenst the developers. They had a big advantage but man it was fun. We also played with the DOOM developers. Wild times 
Muzzy from an exploratory language class I took in the 6th grade.
I’ve had a few buddies call me Bigfoot over the years. It might have something to do with me being 6’2”, 240lbs and size 16 boots. Had to change my avatar not long after I joined this forum because the first one was to scary for some viewers. It was an ominous Sasquatch head shot.
Not the real one of course.
