I used to be a big dr. pepper drinker. I don’t remember when, but I did eventually cut it out. My vice now is coffee, although I am getting better sleep now that I do decaf. The nice thing is, if I don’t have time for coffee, I don’t get any headaches. Plus, one cup of regular, and I am buzzed.
Depends… With simple syrup and crushed mint? Dawn is about right, or after the bugle-call for the first race if you’re with a society crowd. Cut crystal and display-worthy bottle? Probably somewhere around 11AM, 2-4PM if you’re trying to impress someone. Straight outta the bottle, still in the paper bag? Did you even stop?
Sometimes, they’re also called cold drinks. But soda or pop? Feh… Soda is what you mix into drinks, and pop is a sound (usually the removing of a cork).
I used to do that I have no idea when it changed but I always catch myself with Dr. Pepper these days. I do need to know that off though. Maybe I can ween myself back off to at least the good ol zero.
I am very interested in this. Is there any kick to it or is it just to keep the morning routine?
There is a little kick, but you wouldn’t notice if you are used to caffeine. I went to 50/50 at first, but then dropped it. I can sleep better when I want to, and I am more immediately awake when I am not tired anymore.
I keep it around, probably 3 days a week. I make a small pot with two cups for me. Just to have something to drink in the morning. I load it with cream, but good coffee does taste better. I found the grocery stores here sell full bean decaf in bulk.
During my crusade against caffeine, my wife was dragged through the process too, but she still drinks black tea in the morning. She has said she gets headaches is she doesn’t have the tea. So I’m guessing it has more than the decaf coffee.
I am getting large in the belt line and I swear it is from my soda issue and it direct connection to fast food. Even if I am not hungry I will hit a drive through just to get a Dr. Pepper on a rough day. So to stop that madness from happening near lunch time I got some tea on hand (fast and easy). If I can make that stick I will try to back down the caffeine levels. I am a baby step type of person, cold turkey is too brutal.
It is not a secret that soda and fast food are not good for you.

We always have those slightly flavored waters in the fridge. We used to have la croix, now we have spindrifts. If you’re used to soda, they will probably taste like crap, but I use drink them when I would like the enjoyment of a soda (or soft drink). My belt line has also been increasing, but I blame the burgers, pizza, and relative lack of exercise (relative to my previous habits).
I blame the MPCNC. What used to take me all day of standing to cut by hand, the machine can do while I recline and watch football. Ryan’s making us all fat.
OMG those are like crack for me I love them. By far my most expensive/luxurious habit. I get anything costco has with bubbles and a hint of flavor. That is helping for sure. I am not getting bigger so that was step one. Now to slowly work my way back down I need to start making better choices.
I dropped a bunch of weight last year hitting the weights after a couple years of office work (following a couple decades of restaurant, manufacturing, and retail work). Then I had to travel, study for an exam, make a bunch of stuff for a craft show, travel some more, then holidays…
I’m back to normal routine and trying to avoid buying some fat-man pants. I’ve found that when I’m stronger, I live the rest of my life more…actively? You know, i can bounce up the stairs, walk a little faster, etc.
Spalutla! hahaha good to hear. I was obsessed with working out for a few years, never ever missed a day. then I just stopped. I definitely bounce less, walk slower, and sit way more. Hearing your story is inspiring. I do remember how I felt and miss that.
Funny. I’ve had a lot of people tell me I’m inspiring, but never for this. Maybe one day I’ll have to tell you how I went from buffet restaurants to actuarial.
I moan and bitch about having to heave myself off the couch to let the dog outside (not even walksies, just hook him to the tether and wait for him to finish his business in the snow), or worse, having to try to “hustle” to the phone before the machine picks up (assuming the caller id is validated, it sucks living in a first-of-nation state).
Don’t talk to me about when the remote(s) go missing…
And I still eat ice cream by the pint. Granted, it’s less than once a month these days (rather than a couple of times a week), and the wife is always looking for those no sugar added abominations.
My children are never closer to getting actual beatings than when they start asking me if I’m OK after climbing the stairs. One flight. I have a deviated septum, so I’m a mouth breather! My sinuses are clogged! I’m not wheezing!
That sucks. Of all the sweets I do prefer ice cream. I learned to buy the tiny ones because I will not stop until it’s gone.
My bad side is savory, so chips, buttery salty popcorn, and all that bad stuff.
