Alternative to Thingiverse?

Well, I think I can use the prusa printers TV import tool, and also pretty much cut and paste everything to github as well. This might come back to bite me in the end but trying both and seeing if it is easy enough to maintain them all and just offer them in a few places.

Okay well it is not as simple as import and go…but I have started.

Wow - feels so smooth browsing prusaprinters, so much more responsive than TV!! First impression: I miss seeing the thumbnail icons for each part - but that might show up eventually, as the page is being used?

Shoot maybe that only works for .3mf, bummer. I saw on twitter they said stl preview is coming to the slicer in a few months maybe that means the site as well.

I am going to try to add a few to Github later. Those previews are insane!

I suggested to TV that they put the name of the stl on the stl preview several years ago. I heard nothing back.

I suggested it to pp, and they said they at least sounded like they were going to consider it.

Can’t help but try to get me a prusa printer…

It needs a sonicare version! Where do I vote? It is a popularity contest, right?

Come on now, I left a step file, edit to your hearts content. It says, they are voting but popularity is a factor. I think that is views and makes more than anything. Trying to drive traffic to the new site. I was just trying to look around and try out the site. 3mf works, the editing is a bit funky but not too far off what I am used to these days.

Looks like thingiverse has a new face, at least for mobile anyway. Not sure about on desktop yet. At first i was excited to see that they updated things, but i was quickly disappointed.

Before it was just slow. Now it’s slow and sad. Before i could scroll through 3 rows of things. Now it is one row. They changed everything.

Occasionally I’ll actually search for a specific thing, but usually i’d just browse looking at what’s new or interesting to print. Browsing has just become extremely time consuming having to scroll though every single thing and every other thingi is a coronavirus mask. I won’t be back any time soon. What a mess.

Yeah I agree and they removed one the features I liked. On each thing page you used to be able to see how many views and downloads it had. That’s gone now.

I couldn’t find the “remixed from” part of the page. It is easy to see remixes, but not go “upstream”.

I finally found the “contact us” button on the login page, so i left a suggestion to switch back or at least add “view in desktop” function on the home page.

Oh and there is always an exclamation point next to my login as if there are new notifications. Even if I have read them all.

I haven’t been able to log in. Glad I put the parts on prusaprinters when I did!

I think there are advertisements but my javascript blocker is preventing them from loading. Were there ads before? That might have motivated the change. Still holding out hope that it doesn’t turn into SourceForge.

I tried using it yesterday. From what I could tell all of the search functions were broke.

I usually use a search engine with the thingiverse keyword to search thingiverse. I prefer duckduckgo, but google works fine.
