On my skis, the topsheet is made of 0.9 mm veneer. Initially I simply layered the veneer on top of the last composite layer covered with epoxy. After the pressing I sanded and covered with 4-5 layers of PU. Two problems: 1) the epoxy seeps though the veneer irregularly and makes patches of different colors/tone 2) the PU is not thick enough to protect the veneer from shocks.
To solve problem 2 I replaced PU with a transparent epoxy that I lay after the skis are finished in every aspect. For problem 1 I am not sure yet how top proceed, I thought of covering the side of the veneer that touches the layer of composite material with PU. The other option is to apply a thin layer of epoxy. Both should close the pores and void epoxy seeping through during pressing.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
