Just pondering.
Why the belts? Why not a toothed rail that a stepper gear runs along? It could even be belt glued down or something. No flex, no tightness issues etc? Is the belt setup so that the machine is “order off the shelf, diy friendly” and more easily adaptable to all sorts of lengths?
Cheaper, easier to ship, don’t need to attach it to anything, easier to make different sizes.

I've looked up some DIY options for other projects I wanted to do, and would find a website or video talking about how you can do it yourself and save a bundle... you know... if you live right down the road from Very Specific Supplier Inc, and maybe know a guy who works there so they can let you buy directly from them without a distributor. But fear not! Because if you don't live next door to VSS Inc, they will gladly ship the item to you at a cost that ends up making it not worth doing as a DIY project.
